May 7, 1940 - January 15, 2025 Alice Margaret Lacy Beam, 84, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Jan. 15.
Alice was born on May 7, 1940, in Livingstonville, NY, to Henrietta (Hipfl) and Leland Judson Lacy. She was the fourth of eight siblings and grew up in Middleburgh, NY, where she began to form the strong family bonds that remained central to her throughout her life. She married Everett Johnson in 1959, with whom she had two children, Sherry and Jeffery. In 1975, she married George Beam, with whom she shared a great love and many adventures, and had a daughter, Jennifer. Alice and George’s journey took her across the country, from upstate New York to the Bay Area of California. She also lived in Connecticut, Virginia, the Los Angeles area and Lincoln, Calif., ultimately following their grandchildren to Deer Lodge. A passionate cook and baker, Alice was known for sharing her talents with others, often gifting her delicious meals and treats to friends and neighbors. Her culinary skills were only matched by her love for knitting - particularly socks. Alice’s handmade wool socks brought warmth and comfort to countless people across the country, and when she ran out of friends and family to knit for, she happily donated her creations to a local clothing store, New To You. In addition to her knitting, Alice was a dedicated gardener. She was a proud board member of the Deer Lodge Community Garden, where she spent many hours tending to her plants and selling fresh produce at the local farmers’ market. She also volunteered at the Deer Lodge Food Pantry, helping those in need. Alice’s love for her family and community was boundless. She was immensely proud of her seven grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them. Her kindness, generosity and passion for life touched everyone she encountered. She is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Patrick) Gauvin of Florida, Jennifer (Greg) Logan of Deer Lodge, and her son, Jeffery (Sheri) Johnson of Virginia; her brothers, Martin (Bernice) Lacy of Florida, Richard (Linda) Lacy of Florida, and George (Sherry) Lacy of New York; her sister, Kathy Diamond of New York; and seven grandchildren, Patrick, Aimee and Nicholas Gauvin, Kaitlyn, Bennett and James Logan, and Pippa Johnson. Alice is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marie Wetzel and Carol Granbacka, and brother, Leland Lacy. At Alice’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Deer Lodge Food Pantry. Alice’s legacy of love, kindness and community service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
